Wall AG receives iF award 2008 for Dog Service

On the occasion of the CeBit fair in Hanover the International Forum Design GmbH has today recognised Dog Service, Wall AG's new disposal system for dog dirt, by the iF award 2008. This year the award winners were selected from over 2,771 nominations. The design of the Dog Service stations by the Dutch design office npk industrial design has convinced the international jury of experts and made it the winner in the category 'product design'.

'The evaluation criteria of the jury include design quality, innovation, environmental compatibility and product function. Our service column has won the competition with a very critical jury, showing that our proven concept of product design is right', says Daniel Wall, Chairman of the Board of Wall AG.

Dog Service offers the solution to a problem that is well known in many municipalities: public spaces soiled by what a dog has left behind. The Dog Service stations display information for users and offer environmentally friendly paper bags. Their special folding technique makes it possible to easily pick up dog dirt without having to touch it. The bags are disposed on site in odour-protected bins which are integrated in the columns. The bins are hygienically opened by a foot pedal, so there is no need for touching anything by hand.

In the first co-operation scheme of this kind Wall AG, the international street furniture and outdoor advertising specialist, the Berlin Cleaning Service (BSR), and two districts of the German capital have joined forces in order to launch Dog Service as a joint pilot project. In line with the motto 'For a clean Berlin' the districts of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Tempelhof-Schöneberg have been provided with about 50 Dog Service stations in November 2007 for one year free of charge. After the pilot phase, in September 2008, there will be discussions on rolling out Dog Service in the whole city of Berlin. All over Germany numerous towns and cities are interested in the disposal system of the Berlin street furniture specialist that offers a clean solution for the life of humans and dogs in cities.

The iF product design award is one of the world's most renowned and oldest design competitions, which was held for the 54th time this year. All award-winning products will be displayed in the framework of the 'iF exhibition' on the trade fair grounds from March through August 2008.
