Now they shine again: From today on, Tauentzienstrasse, Kurfuerstendamm and for the first time Kantstrasse will be illuminated with a seasonal splendour, inviting young and old to dream. For the sixth time in succession, Berlin based international street furniture provider and outdoor advertiser Wall AG funds and organises the joyful illumination of the world famous high-street. In the presence of numerous guests from politics, business and culture, Berlin's Governing Mayor Klaus Wowereit, Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf's City Councillor Klaus-Dieter Groehler and Daniel Wall, Chief Executive Officer of Wall AG, pushed the button to alight this year's Christmas illumination.
"With this enchanting lightshow, we are glad to send out a visible sign for tradition and community in times of crisis." Daniel Wall, Chief Executive Officer of Wall AG, explained. He asserted the commitment of his company until 2013: "To us, the funding of the Christmas illumination is a matter of the heart. We are proud to make Berlin shine even brighter and to embellish the city for the Christmas season. With the festive lightshow we are sending our season's greetings to all citizens and visitors and wish them a merry Christmas."
More than one million light-spots illuminate Kurfürstendamm and Tauentzienstrasse between Nuernberger Strasse and Rathenauplatz. For 40 days, until January next year, popular Christmas characters like Buddy-Bear, Santa Claus and Nutcracker can be admired along the boulevard. But as in years before, Wall AG is not content to present only familiar faces. Two novelties will enrich the popular inner city area: For the first time, Kantstrasse is included in the festive illumination. By means of two entrance portals and 44 illuminated trees, Wall AG puts an end to the darkness on this traditional high-street, thus extending its commitment within the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. This year's highlight is the illumination of Berlin's Memorial Church: White and golden spotlights impressively put the symbolic monument in the limelight and give a splendid illumination to the surrounding Breitscheidplatz.
Furthermore, Wall AG for the second time funds the illumination of Reichsstrasse. 64 illuminations in the form of shooting stars embellish the area between Theodor-Heuss-Platz and Steubenplatz, spreading a seasonal splendour along the boulevard.
Proceeds from the sales of mulled wine and pretzels at the opening of the Christmas illumination will be donated to Jens-Nydal-Elementary School in Berlin-Kreuzberg. Since 2005, Wall AG funds the education promotion project "rechenfix & wortgewandt" (quick with numbers and clever with words), successfully providing advancement courses to 60 children from an immigrant background.
