The American architecture and design museum Chicago Athenaeum has granted the GOOD DESIGN Award 2009 to Wall AG for its street furniture line developed for the city of Muenster. But the street furniture provider and outdoor advertiser has double reason to rejoice since another of its products, the Wall City Light Board, created by Berlin based design agency ION DESIGN, also received the sought after award, which this year is granted for the 59th time.
The award winning street furniture series, which has been developed by Jan Kleihues for the city of Muenster, takes up in its forms and colours the elegantly curved outlines of the city's baroque buildings, constructed by Muenster's court architect Johann Conrad Schlaun. Its shaping and colouring give a coherent character to the street furniture line, thus creating a sense of unity between the different elements. The colours used correspond to the typical dark- and clinker brick red of the cityscape. The series includes bus stop shelters, City Light Boards, poster pillars, City-Toilets and City-Pissoirs as well as city information units.
The Wall City Light Board inspires by its light and elegant design. The frame of this large format advertising display is backprinted in passepartout-style, thus presenting advertising motives in 18/1 format in an especially attractive way. Furthermore, the Wall City Light Board is equipped with online surveillance. In case of malfunction, Wall AG's service team is alerted via data communication. The boards scrolling technique allows presenting up to three motives successively.
The innovative advertising display was developed by Berlin based designers IONDESIGN, an agency specialised on three dimensional designs. The team around industrial designers Christoph Fleckenstein and Anja Goetz has in recent years created various designs for Wall AG, amongst them the bluespot terminal, the comprehensive refurbishment of the public lavatory on Berlin's Alexanderplatz and the Freiburg branch office of Wall AG. For its work with Wall AG IONDESIGN has received numerous design awards. Since 2008, Wall AG holds a 30 per cent stake in the design agency.
"We are very proud to have won the Good Design Award twice the same year. Both awards are a further proof that our company's products are appreciated worldwide due to their outstanding quality and excellent design", Daniel Wall, Chief Executive Officer of Wall AG, points out. "On this occasion, we would like to thank Jan Kleihues and his team as well as IONDESIGN agency for the successful and inspiring collaboration. We are very much looking forward to future projects with both partners."
