Today Daniel Wall, Chief Executive Officer of the Wall AG, handed over the first bus stop shelter of the design line Münster to city director Hartwig Schultheiß and to the citizens of Münster. The modern street furniture is the first of about 700 products which Wall will build or modernize in the Westphalian student city. Many representatives of the city, the municipal political sector and the public service of Münster attended the celebratory occasion.
The new street furniture is the result of the 2008 call for tender for the allocation of the municipal rights to advertise, for which Wall gained the award of contract. The invitation to bid also included exchanging street furniture like city information panels, city-light-boards, advertising pillars, as well as taking-over and complementing already existing public bathrooms. This month a new Wall-City-Toilet will open “Am Bült” as well as a new Wall-City-Pissoir at the “Bremer Platz”. The company hired another seven service staff members for cleaning and maintaining the facilities. All in all, thirteen employees of the branch office in Münster will support the implementation of the contract and will be responsible for service and marketing. Wall will invest approximately € 120 million in new city furniture in the years to come.
The bus stop shelters are the central elements of the new street furniture. Their form and colour pick up the elegantly curved Baroque buildings of the well-known 18th century architect Johann Conrad Schlaun and the deep red of the city’s brick houses. Shape and colour give a uniform character to the individual furniture and signalize coherence. The reputable architect Jan Kleihues developed this design line on behalf of the Wall AG.
“We are proud to equip the city of Münster with high-quality street furniture”, said Daniel Wall. “With new products and interactive services we desire to contribute to life- and information-quality in the public sphere. The quality of the furniture in conjunction with their highly frequented locations supports our excellent marketing competences. Due to our contract with the city of Münster, the citizens will benefit from the earnings in the end again.”
Five bus stop shelters will be equipped with the city information system bluespot. The information terminals are free of charge and provide comfortable internet access, a variety of information about the city of Münster and the opportunity to make a phone call. Münster is the seventh bluespot-city in Germany. The new bus stop shelters and the interactive services will support the attractiveness of the public local traffic of the city.
