Wall GmbH's Dog Service keeps streets and parks clean of doggy waste
Dog waste in parks, on sidewalks, and on public squares is a well-known nuisance in every city and town. To address this ubiquitous problem, Wall GmbH has developed an integrated concept that combines two complementing innovations. The first is the Dog Service Station with its odourless disposal unit and paper bags made of recycled paper. And the second: our mobile Dog Service units, employees of Wall GmbH or our cooperation partners, patrol the streets and parks, clean up dog waste, and set a good example for dog owners. For a better quality of life. For people and dogs.
Pilot project success story
In November 2007, Wall GmbH introduced Dog Service in a pilot project supported by Berlin's municipal sanitation services BSR and the boroughs of Tempelhof-Schönefeld and Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. So far, it's been a big success: more than 80,000 of the ingenious paper bags have been taken from the dispensers in the first four months alone. More than 50% of them have been used. The cooperation with our project partners was exemplary. For the future, we are planning to cooperate with the Berlin Veterinary Chamber to promote Dog Service and drive acceptance. Our partner BSR provides the waste disposal services and empties the Dog Service Stations.
Dog Service Station: the clean award winner
The Dog Service Station dispenses free, environment-friendly paper bags that allow do owners to pick up the "dirty deed" securely and hygienically. The full bag can then be thrown into the integrated, odourless disposal unit. It is opened easily and safely by foot pedal. This simple, user-friendly solution makes it easy for dog owners to clean up after their canine friends. The tall, slim pillar is widely visible and contains clear instructions reminding dog owners of their obligations. An optional light system illuminates the Dog Service Station at night. A perfect combination of form, function, and innovation, the Dog Service Station won the iF Product Design Award in 2008. Following the example of Berlin, the German city Rüsselsheim also installed Dog Service Stations.
Hands-off waste removal: the ingenious shovel bags
With their integrated shovel mechanism, the eco-friendly paper bags make it easy to pick up the dog waste. Unlike plastic bags, which always involve that uncomfortable feeling of actually touching the waste, the paper bag's shovel let you remove it without getting too close for comfort.
